The pea coat is a stylish and versatile piece of military outerwear that has been around since the 1800s when the Dutch navy first wore them.

The name pea coat originated from the Dutch word “pije” (they pronounce their j’s differently), which was used in the Dutch language to describe a heavy coat made from coarse woolen fabric.

While the Dutch get credit for its invention it was the British navy who popularized it.

The British version of the coat was designed to be a uniform for petty officers. Today the pea coat is a stylish firm favorite for outwear when the mercury dips.

The Bridgeman is a tailored, high-performance pea coat made with water-resistant, 4-way-stretch fabric from Schoeller® Switzerland.

Behind the Bridgeman is Mission Workshop - a boutique label run out of San Francisco warehouse with a team experienced in making advanced combat apparel for the world’s most elite military units.

Lightweight Construction

Constructed from a Swiss-made 3-layer waterproof softshell fabric, the Bridgeman that takes pea coat performance to the next level.

The outer layer of the Bridgeman is made from a refined wool/nylon stretch-woven textile, while the inside is made from soft and warm high-performance polyester fleece.

The Bridgeman is windproof, highly water-resistant, breathable, insulating, and stretches in four directions.

Despite the 3-layer fabric construction, the Bridgeman is not bulky nor heavy. The Bridgeman is made without a sewn-in liner, which lowers bulk and allows for easy layering.

Highly Functional Design

Three zippered pockets, a convertible funnel collar and even a dedicated knife pocket, complete the highly functional design.

Like any great premium product, the quality of the materials and workmanship is guaranteed for life.

Any failure of materials or defects and Mission Workshop will replace them with a like item free of charge; they’ll even cover shipping.
